More Movies…

I had a two-week leave and came back to work yesterday.
The second my alarm went off yesterday morning, I moaned and thought of 1000 reasonable excuses not to go to work. And I thought after my leave I would be revitalized and looking forward to being enslaved again. Apparently not!
The same happened this morning, with one obvious exception: I didn’t come early but on time!!

During the last two weeks and on the days that I was neither sick or shopping (I was in bed for a week and still have the remains of the flu, and I’m completely and utterly broke) I saw lots of movies in theatre (not to mention the ones I saw on DVDs.)

I’m fully saturated at the moment.
I could even tell you what ads they keep playing before each movie and in order. They are:
1. Axiom’s Difference Back Guarantee on Nokia phones… The one that promotes bullying and that tells the world if you are a browbeater you can get away with anything!!
2. Escalade’s rocking the catwalk….lovely car, simple ad.
3. Christina Aguilera’s Pepsi ad with Elisa in the background…or is it a Motorola ad??? So confusing when you see the Motorola logo more than the Pepsi one!

The holiday started with deciding with Hiba to watch The Benchwarmers over Posidon. It was a disaster. Hiba almost cried from the pain caused watching Schneider & Spade repeat old jokes and ones that involved many bodily functions suitable for the toilets. The movie surely stank like a public urinal frequented by truck drivers!!

Since the kids are around, I took them to see The Wild which was much better than The Benchwarmers but definitely a bore. But the kids like it, so if you have kids, take them!

Zane wanted to watch She’s The Man, so we went to see it especially that I started to develop a craving for the chocolate crepe they serve at the theaters! The movie, though has an expected storyline, got some laughs out of me. My honest verdict: it’s a good chick movie to watch on video when you have your gals around and have nothing better to do.

I took the kids out again for another movie. This time it was Over The Hedge which was an improvement to the previous animation. It’s a good kids movie, that won’t bore the adult guardian to death!

A day after that I got to see a real movie: Pirates of the Caribbean, Dead Man’s Chest. It was so weird to go to a movie theatre with so many other people. I somehow got used to going to empty cinemas that I forgot how it feels to go and see a movie with a crowd!! After whistling when Depp came on screen, I managed to keep my chocolate crepe recently digested in my stomach. Some scenes especially at the beginning were stomach turning!! But the movie is a MUST SEE. It’s funny, thrilling, ghastly, horrifying (well for some people!!!), and it has three beautiful people (Depp, Bloom & Knightley), what more can any decent movie goer ask for?!!

Then I decided it’s time to bond with my nephews, so I took them to The Fast & The Furious: Tokyo Drift even though I didn’t see the previous two in the series. I was amazed. Not for the acting, nor for the storyline. But for the great great races. I had an adrenalin rush and kept thinking how can I drift with my large car?!! Now if I had the Cayman, drifting would be easy! Mind you, I wouldn’t try it with a Cayman if I knew I’d have to pay the repairs!! Great movie for the guys and girls like me :)

On my last day of leave I decided to go and watch a movie alone. Since I almost saw every movie showing at the moment (not counting the Arabic ones) and since the only movie showing at 2:00 pm was Undiscovered, I got a small popcorn (I’ve decided to quit the Chocolate Crepes!!) and a drink and went to watch the movie in an almost empty theatre (almost as a couple walked in 10 mins after the movie started and were entertaining each other than watching the film!!). I can’t describe how HORRIBLE it was. I’d watch The Benchwarmers again and not watch this one. It’s one movie (with all of its actors, if you can even call them “actors”) that should stay “undiscovered”!!!

till i waste another thirty dirhams on a movie...
without wax!

Zizo the Ass!!

The world cup has come to an end!
All of the teams that I have rooted for lost at some point or another before the semifinal.

The final came and I really didn’t care who wins.
I’d cheer for Italy just because the French didn’t play well to deserve to be a finalist. (The way I see it, Ghana deserved to win against Brazil, and Ghana would have then defeated France. I mean really why can’t an African team win the almost African team of France?!!)
Of course, if France ended up playing well, then I’d cheer for them just because Zinedine Zidane is the captain and I wouldn’t mind if he gets another cup.

France Did Play Well. Especially in the second half.
I was in turmoil. I couldn’t decide who I should cheer for and the game is going soon to penalties.
Then Zizo goes and butts Materazzi. I was furious.
I jumped out of happiness when the referee kicked Zizo out. From that minute on, I was cheering Italia!

What a stupid move from Zizo. And to all those out there who think that Zidane is excused because he was insulted, please get real!!
I don’t care if Materazzi swore at Zizo, insulted him personally, or insulted his mother or insulted Islam (some Muslims are so naïve that they think Zizo represents or would defend Islam!!). What Zidane did was not acceptable especially on a football field, with millions of idolizing people watching him in his last game, and when he is supposed to be promoting clean play.
It’s known that football players have the foulest mouths. That they swear right, left and centre. That doesn’t give the other player the right to get physical.
That heading could have killed Materazzi. It was directed towards Xiphoid process of the sternum (check your anatomy books people!) which if broken could puncture the heart or the lung. Actually, if you took any self defense class they would tell you to direct your strongest punch at that area if you won’t a fatal punch. Forget that, if you took any CPR class, they would tell you to make sure NOT to push that area hard cause you might kill someone!!

Zizo just proved in that move that he is a jackass, dumb as one and butts as well as one too!!!

Italy won the world cup and they deserved it.

Of course it would have been all women dream match if Italy & Portugal played the final…and it rained!! Aaaaaaah!

My Famous Friend

Once upon a time there was a bunch of amateur writers who lived together in cyber space. They wrote, and wrote and wrote.
They wrote prose and poetry.
They wrote comments and critiques on whatever the others published online.
They of course wrote to each other through emails and chats.

I was a member of that group and I made a site that united the elite. Thamer Shaker was my partner in deciding who to invite into our elite club, at least at the beginning. The club became so popular that other members had to vote to accept new writers in.

Thamer was my sincerest critic (he always liked what I wrote!!) and of course he was my closest online (male) friend. Sometimes our friendship was attacked by others just because they couldn’t understand it. That was the fun part. We sometimes purposely tantalized and goaded the others.

From the whole group, Thamer was always the most serious about his writings. The son of a famous writer, he knew he could be a well respected writer just like his mother.
He had the resolve. And he did it.
Well at least he published his first book.

Thamer,
I’m so proud of you!!
Now for the love of god send me a couple of signed copies before you really become famous and stop communicating with me!

For all others... get his book from here.
